SHILLONG: MPSC chairman L.M Sangma on Wednesday said the Commission does not have any role to play in the withdrawal of advertisements for any posts without directions from the government department concerned.
In response to the allegations of Achik Youth Council (AYC) as reported in the media with regard to the cancellation and re-notification of the post of Medical and Health Officer under the Health and Family Welfare Department to increase the number of vacant posts, MPSC clarified that it does not decide the number of vacancies nor does it have any discretionary power to increase or decrease the number of vacancies of any post that is advertised as the power to do the same lies with the government department concerned.
The Commission also said the AYC neither approached MPSC nor presented any memorandum on matters related to the recruitment.
According to MPSC, it also does not have any power to decide on the educational qualification for any posts. “The MPSC is duty bound to advertise the draft advertisement forwarded by the government departments. The least it can do is to seek clarification on the draft advertisement if it is not in consonance with the service rule of the government department concerned,” Sangma said.
The Commission further informed that the Health and Family Welfare Department had forwarded a requisition along with the draft advertisement indicating 50 vacancies through a letter dated November 10, 2014, and the department forwarded a communication through a letter dated October 9, 2015, seeking the withdrawal of the advertisement.
On December 17, 2015, the department again forwarded a requisition along with a fresh draft advertisement indicating 60 vacancies and on receipt of the same, MPSC issued the advertisement, Sangma added.
