After one withdrawal, 33 candidates remain in fray

SHILLONG: With one stand-by candidate of BJP withdrawing from the fray, the number of candidates for the district council by-election now stands at 33.
Thursday was the last day fixed for withdrawal of candidature for the December 13 by-polls.
The stand-by candidate of BJP, S. Cleverson Roy Syiemlieh had filed nominations to contest from Nongspung-Sohiong constituency.
Altogether 33 candidates will contest the by-election to six vacant seats in the KHADC and one in the JHADC.
After the last day of withdrawal of candidates, five candidates each are vying for Nongspung-Sohiong, Pariong-Mawthadraishan and Nongkrem seats, while six candidates are in fray for the Laban-Mawprem seat. There are four candidates each contesting from Rambrai-Jyrngam, Mairang-Nongkhlaw and the lone JHADC seat of War East.
