TURA: Winter Youth Festival, the annual pre-Christmas event, will begin on December 7 at the Dikki Bandi Stadium in Tura. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is scheduled to inaugurate the two-day festival.
The twin attractions this year are the international musical choir, Mind Education from South Korea that will perform on December 8 from 5-7pm, and Narang (citrus) Festival on the sidelines by the Agriculture-Horticulture Department in collaboration with IBDLP.
The choir performance will have a Korean fan dance.
A gospel band called Rio Montana will also perform at the fest.
The Narang fest and the Farmers’ Agriculture and Related Products Expo, or FARPE, will celebrate the rich indigenous diversity of fruits grown in the Garo Hills region and will have local farm produce.
Stalls will be put up by various departments like agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, handloom, sericulture and weaving, tourism and fisheries, among others.
‘Forever Country’, a musical tribute to the folk music legends, will be staged on Day 1.
There will be competitive events on Day 2 which will include photography, dancing and karaoke.
Various government schemes like Swachh Bharat, IBDLP, CM Youth for Green and CM Career Guidance Scheme will co-sponsor the two-day festivities.
The festival will also aim at easing the demonetisation troubles through a buyer-seller meet at the twin exhibitions of Narang Festival and FARPE.
