NONGPOH: The chief of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Welbirth Rani, has expressed concern over the prevailing differences among tribal organisations in the State and called for a united fight for the cause and welfare of the indigenous people.
Addressing the gathering at the grand swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected office bearers of FKJGP’s North Khasi Hills Unit in Ri Bhoi on Saturday, Rani said though several tribal bodies are being formed every day, they stand divided in their fight for rights. Major issues remain unaddressed till date because some bodies are “working for their benefits”, he pointed out.
“It is time for every organisation to stand united on several issues to safeguard the rights of indigenous people,” said Rani while talking about how alleged illegal immigration from Bangladesh is threatening indigenous people.
However, he added that it was meaningless to have so many organisations when only a few are working for the real causes.
