SHILLONG: Nongthymmai legislator Jemino Mawthoh on Monday inspected the water sources near Nongrah and Lapalang areas with an intention to provide clean water to the women who wash clothes in the area.
The MLA inspected the sites along with the officers of the Water Resources department.
Later, Mawthoh said that he wanted to provide clean water from water bodies in the areas where women wash clothes. Moreover, there is a plan to construct the required structure.
The estimated cost of the project has been earmarked at around Rs 15 lakh.
“Health wise, it will be better for the women if they get clean water,” he said.
The legislator said that they will also have a meeting later with power grid and the Dorbar Shnong so as to create more awareness among the residents adjacent to the water bodies to prevent discharge of waste into the water.
He also said that there is a need to have a different approach including engaging experts to prevent waste water from flowing into water bodies.
