Govt to enhance salary of adhoc secondary, higher secondary teachers

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has asked the teachers to motivate the school and college dropouts in the State so that they are not left out from getting education.
Addressing the annual state level meet cum felicitation programme of All Meghalaya Adhoc Teachers Association at St. Jerome Higher Secondary School, Nongmynsong, Shillong on Tuesday, Sangma lauded the incomparable efforts of the teachers and said that different students have different levels of comprehension and absorption capacity and hence education should be inclusive and urged the teachers to guide and support and motivate even the school and college drop outs.
Sangma spoke of the innumerable obstacles students face while trying to make a prospective career and said, “Therefore, as members of the society it is the responsibility of everyone to provide the children with the necessary strength and support to overcome the obstacles.”
He also said that most of the children being the first generation students do not get the required hand holding support from home.
Stating that the State still faces the issue of achieving 100 per cent literacy, the chief minister said that the task ahead is to prepare the young ones so that they have equal opportunities to education and success.
He also said that it is the endeavour of the government to make the State an education hub of the country and that space and opportunities are available through education in government, semi government and non government sectors.
He appealed the teachers to mould and motivate their students to build their careers based on their respective ambition and dreams.
“The teachers need to take out time from their routine classes to talk and motivate children to explore the opportunities available”, he said.
Also present at the function was School Education and Literacy Minister Deborah Marak.
Earlier, Director of School Education, Ambrose Marak during his address said that the government has considered the proposal for the enhancement of salary of adhoc secondary and higher secondary teachers.
B. Kharumnuid, President, All Meghalaya Adhoc Teachers’ Association presented a memorandum to the chief minister during the programme.
