Two killed as Capital Express derails

Guwahati: Two persons were killed and six others sustained injuries when the engine and two coaches — one sleeper and one general Second class coach of 13248 Up Rajendra Nagar – Guwahati Capital Express derailed near Samuktala Road station under Alipurduar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Alipurduar district of West Bengal close inter-state boundary with Assam at around 9-30 P.M. on Tuesday night.
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the NF Railway, Pranab Jyoti Sharma informed that the deceased were identified as Munish Nath (65, male) and Mahesh Nath (40, male), both hail from Faridabad in Haryana. The families of the deceased have been contacted by the railway authority.
The injured have been identified as Indrajit Mandal (25, male), Parikshit Mandal (40,male), Pritam Mandal (16,male), Rupa Mandal (34,female), Shah Jamal Sheikh (35, male) and Surender Prasad (38, male).
The injured were treated by railway doctors who reached the site soon after the accident. Ex-gratia payment of Rs. 5000 each has been made to the injured.
The unaffected portion of the train consisting of 19 coaches was detached and pushed back from the site. The train resumed its journey at 05.10 am on Wednesday morning after rescue and relief operation was completed. Following temporary disruption of train services as a result of the accident, the following trains are cancelled, diverted and short-terminated.
The accident forced cancellation of three trains, short termination of two trains while a few trains were diverted through New Coochbehar-Golakganj-Fakiragram-New Bongaigaon route.
The engine and two derailed coaches which were infringing the track at Samuktala station were removed by the Railway restoration team and the track was certified fit for traffic movement at 1.15 P.M. after
carrying out safety check.
