SHILLONG: Two suspected GNLA cadres were arrested on Thursday for threatening to kill South Garo Hills SP Anand Mishra.
The duo, identified as 38-year-old Borgen Sangma and 49-year-old Rankhu Momin, was sending threat messages to Mishra’s personal and official mobile numbers since October 20, Baghmara police said. They had sent SMSes demanding Rs 50 lakh.
Sangma and Momin claimed they were the “foreign secretary in charge” and “public information officer” of the GNLA and that they were keeping an eye on Mishra’s movements. They threatened to raid his house and shoot the SP, whom they called ‘Bangal’, a derogatory word.
Police said the mobile phone and the SIM card that were used only to send the messages have been found from their possession after the IT cell of Baghmara Police cracked the blind case.
The duo has named more people involved in this connection.
