NONGPOH/JOWAI: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi conducted a one-day seminar on the importance of digital modes of transaction at Science Hall here on Thursday.
District heads of various government departments, bank officials and shopkeepers among others attended the seminar in which senior officials of State Bank of India, Nongpoh branch and local HDFC branch made presentations on the objectives and importance of digital modes of transaction.
They demonstrated various ways of transferring money from one account to another using debit cards, credit cards, mobile banking, net banking, e-wallet, mobile app etc.
Meanwhile, in Jowai, the West Jaintia Hills District Administration in collaboration with the SBI, HDFC and ICICI banks organised an awareness campaign for traders, shopkeepers, hoteliers at the Conference Room of the DC’s Office.
Deputy Commissioner Arunkumar Kembhavi briefed the gathering on the purpose of organising the campaign and encouraged traders to opt for digital transaction to cope with the demonetisation situation.
For the benefit of the traders, the Deputy Commissioner also demonstrated the use of Paytm.
Meanwhile, the ICIC Bank informed that it has tied up with the MeCEL and very soon PoS machines will be installed in the office for payment of electricity bills.
