Working hours extended
The Managing Director, Meghalaya Transport Corporation, has informed the general public that the working hours of the Meghalaya Transport Corporation’s Passenger Reservation System (Railway Ticket Booking) will be extended from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM on all weekdays with immediate effect.
Raids conducted
The Deputy Commissioner (Excise), West Garo Hills, Tura has informed that the department has conducted raids in and around Tura area and arrested 24 persons under Section 53 (1) (a) of the ME Act during October and November, 2016 with seizure amounting to 334 litres of IMFL and Beer. A total of 14 cases were disposed off and a fine amounting to Rs. 10, 800 was realized.
Local holiday
The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has informed that all State Government Offices and all Revenue Magisterial Courts, Educational Institutions in West Khasi Hills District shall remain closed on December 13 on account of U Sib Singh Syiem Day.
Clarification
The Meghalaya Government Press Industrial Employees Association has clarified that they have no intention to approach the Court on the issue of holiday denial. The General Secretary of the Association, Denis Suting said that the next step to be taken would depend on the outcome of the executive committee of the Association which would be held soon.
Coin mela
To ease the effects of demonetisation, the office of the Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with SBI and UBI will be holding Coin Mela on December 12 in the premises of DC’s Office Jowai from 10:00 AM onwards. The minimum a person can exchange is Rs 100. Lower denomination notes like Rs.50, Rs.20 and Rs.10 will be rationed. Shopkeepers giving chocolates, toffees, pepper mints in the name of change will be viewed seriously by the District Administration.
Tysam festival
Tysam, the Annual Winter Festival of Baghmara will be held on 12-13 January 2017. This was informed by the Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills District, Baghmara.
Seminar
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District conducted a one day seminar on the Digital modes of transaction with all the District Heads from various Government Departments, Bank officials and shopkeepers on December 8 at Science Hall Nongpoh.
Awareness programme
Mawkhar Sports Club in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Meghalaya will be organising an awareness programme on first aid & disaster management on Saturday on December 10  from 8 am at Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar.
Cleaning drive
Dorbar Shnong Demthring is organising a cleaning drive on December 12 which will start from 7:30 am, vehicle movement is restricted during the cleaning drive and all shops will remain close till 12 noon.

The 1st general meeting of the Kur Surong will be held on December 17 at Laitumkhrah (Don Bosco) Youth Center around 10 am.
