SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Indigenous Youth Forum (MIYF) has alleged that construction work on NH 44 in East Jaintia Hills has been sub standard.
The members inspected the road on December 8 and claimed that there were irregularities in the construction. In a statement issued to the press, the MIYF said, “We were dissatisfied with the work carried out.”
The MIYF will take up the matter with the District administration, the construction company, supervising agency, implementing director National Highway Authority of India and officials of the Ministry of Roads Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to urge them to widen and reconstruct the road as per standard procedure. The members of the forum will also urge the authorities to make space for implementation of afforestation schemes throughout NH 44.
