Oil tanker fire: One succumbs to injuries

JOWAI: One of the persons seriously injured in the capsized oil tanker fire incident at Mookhep village on Thursday succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Marius Sumer of Wapungskur village. Sumer hailed from Lapangap village and was married to a woman from Wapungskur in East Jaintia Hills.
Sumer along with others was trying to collect oil from the leaking tanker after it capsized on the road side at Mookhep when it caught fire all of a sudden hurting as many 12 people from nearby areas.
The Silchar-bound tanker lost control and overturned at Mookhep on Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, more than 30 people from nearby villages gathered at the spot with buckets to collect petrol that was leaking from the tanker.
Sources said someone in the melee might have lighted a cigarette as the truck suddenly caught fire and blew off injuring 12 persons.
Marius Sumer, Dame Ryngkhlem, Rahlang Siangshai and Bor Ryngkhle were among the critically injured who are admitted in a local hospital.
