Itanagar: General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Tezpur-based 4 Corps of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Amarjeet Singh Bedi on Monday paid a courtesy visit to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu at his office here.
Bedi, who replaced Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu as GOC last month, appreciated the state government’s support to the Indian Army in providing logistical installations, roads and other defence infrastructures, an official communiqué said.
He also expressed happiness over Army-public relations in the state, particularly in Tawang and West Kameng district. Khandu assured full support of the state government to the Army in their welfare works under ‘Operation Samaritan’ and said that it be continued.
He appreciated the Army’s ‘Maitri Divas’, observed in forward areas of India-China border, to strengthen ties between the two countries and promised his government’s support for it. On being informed about the low number of Arunachali youth in the Army, Khandu asked the Army officials to conduct prior training and coaching programmes to help the young prepare for the examination and physical tests.
He also discussed erection of the long-pending war memorial here in memory of martyred Arunachali soldiers. He also assured support to help erect the memorial with display of old trophies to attract visitors.
Both of them also talked about establishment of an Army brigade here.
Khandu hoped the presence of defence forces would generate a sense of security, but speed up development activities in the area, the communiqué added. (PTI)
