SHILLONG: Many Aadhaar applicants in the city are being taken for a ride by middlemen who are asking for money with the promise of fast issuance of the unique numbers.
There are reports that certain middlemen are charging Rs 500-1,000 from people and assuring them that their Aadhaar numbers will be issued in no time and without any hassle.
Deputy Commissioner P.S Dkhar said he has received inputs that some middlemen are charging people for making Aadhaar cards. He urged the public to come forward with details if they come across anyone trying to make quick money.  The Centre has set December 2017 deadline for 100 per cent enrolment in the country. It has been informed about the problems faced by Meghalaya in implementing Aadhaar.
