TURA: Notwithstanding the lack of sufficient funds, the district administration of East Garo Hills has launched the colourful three-day Simsang festival at Williamnagar on Wednesday with local MLA and Minister for School Education and Literacy Deborah C Marak inaugurating the event.
Overcoming challenges on account of the demonetisation exercise, participants and organisers came together to present the grand winter festival. From traditional and ethnic dancers to artisans displaying their products, the inauguration witnessed large groups of people visiting the various stalls set up at the festival which is being held at Rongrenggre Higher Secondary School playground. The highlights of the festival include exhibition stalls set up by self help groups, registered societies and government departments, song and dance competitions, Tasek Festival, Simsang man-hunt and beauty pageant etc.
