SHILLONG: The District Council by-election results for all constituencies will be out before Friday noon.
The preparation for counting, which will be done at three centres in three districts from 8am, is over. The by-poll to the seven seats in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council was held on Tuesday.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said the counting will begin with the postal ballots followed by votes cast at polling stations.
Dkhar said security at the counting centres will be in three layers and everyone, including candidates and counting agents, will be allowed inside only after they produce their identity cards.
Magistrates and police will be deployed when winning candidates take out victory processions after the declaration of the results.
It is expected that the fate of 33 candidates from seven parties will be known by 12 o’ clock.
The by-election was necessitated following the passing of the dual posts act by the State government and the subsequent resignation of seven sitting MDCs and MLAs.
