SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has received a single case which will be examined by the panel shortly.
It was in July this year that the Commission started functioning after its formation with retired Chief Justice Aftab H. Saikia as Chairman and former Meghalaya DGP P.J.P. Hanaman as member. A third member is yet to be selected by the government.
Aldous Mawlong, secretary to the Commission said on Thursday that recently the panel received a complaint related to alleged human rights violations from Baghmara. However, he did not divulge the nature of the case saying that the chairman has to first examine the matter. “Since the chairman is indisposed, the matter will be examined after his medical treatment end of this month,” Mawlong said.                     As far as the office accommodation of the Commission is concerned, the government will sign an MOU with Arunachal Pradesh to rent out a portion of the old NEFA building opposite Anjalee.
