Weapon seized after police-GNLA encounter

SHILLONG: An encounter took place between police and the GNLA in Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills on Thursday morning resulting in the recovery of arms and ammunition.
Police said that the encounter took place with the left over members of the GNLA who had come to the village for food. An AK 10 gun and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. According to police, the militants numbering around seven first reached Williamnagar border with an intention to terrorise people so that they will pay the extortion money to the GNLA which is hit by police operations and surrender of cadres.   Meghalaya DGP S B Singh is expected to visit Garo Hills on Friday or Saturday to review the security situation aimed at launching further assault on the GNLA.
