SHILLONG: The results of the by-election to KHADC show that it will further strengthen the Executive Committee led by KHADC chief P.N Syiem who was suspended from the Congress.
Syiem said on Friday he is in a comfortable position in KHADC and there was no threat as the two newly elected UDP members will support him in raising the number of the ruling coalition to 18 out of the total 29.
In the by-polls to KHADC, out of six seats, the Congress secured only one.
Sources said had the Congress secured more seats, the party MDCs would have made efforts to topple the Executive Committee led by the rebel Congress leader.
Syiem, while congratulating all the elected MDCs, said the results revealed that the political parties have retained their respective seats — UDP (2), HSPDP (2), Congress (1) and NCP (1) in KHADC — though from different constituencies.
To a question, Syiem, however, said it is up to HSPDP and the lone NCP member to decide their future course of action.
