SHILLONG: Iewmawlong and Motphran are among the busiest commercial hubs in the city but civic maintenance in the area is in a pitiable condition.
The roads, on which hundreds of vehicles ply every day, leading to the areas lack maintenance and the civic body has turned a blind eye to the problem. Illegally parked cars only aggravate the problem.
Drainage is also a major problem in the areas and monsoons bring a flood of woes, say shopkeepers here. “The road is full of potholes and congested. Traffic is terrible on the routes and yet the Government has not paid any attention to this place,” the shopkeepers said.
According to shopkeepers, the entire stretch from Anjalee to Motphran should have had proper roads with parking zones as it is a commercial hub.
Though two parking lots have been constructed in the area around a decade back, the number of vehicles in the area has increased and hence the congestion is more now.
