SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council CEM, P.N Syiem, has decided not to contest the election to the KHADC in 2019 once he is elected to the Assembly in 2018.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, Syiem said though there was no bar for him to contest the council polls and hold the dual posts, he believes in one person holding one post.
“It is good to have one post for one man, though the law allows holding dual posts,” the CEM said.
Even after the dual post Act came into existence in October last year, Syiem continues to hold the post of CEM as the Election Commission and the Governor had ruled that the post of CEM is not an office of profit. The High Court had also upheld the decision.
