SHILLONG: Police will initiate departmental proceedings against the traffic in charge of Sadar police station once he is out of jail.
Informing this here on Monday, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said that the allegation against the cop was serious in nature and hence despite the request for withdrawal of the FIR, the accused was taken into custody.
“It is for the court to decide whether an FIR can be withdrawn or not,” Kharkrang said.
He further said that police are conducting necessary awareness programmes for their personnel on how to conduct themselves while dealing with the public.
Traffic in charge of Sadar Police Station PM Syiem was arrested last week following complaint of sexual assault against him.
An FIR accusing the cop of assaulting a girl was filed at Laban police station.  Police said that though there was a request for withdrawal of the FIR from the complainant  the accused had to be arrested as it was a cognizable offence.
The accused was produced before a local court and forwarded to 14 days’ judicial custody.
