JOWAI: The West Jaintia Hills district administration on Tuesday held a meeting on price monitoring before the festival.
Prices of meat were hiked and fixed at Rs 240 per kg of beef with bones, Rs 300 per kg of boneless beef and Rs 260 per kg of pork.
The meeting, chaired by additional deputy commissioner D.M Wallang, was held keeping in mind unwanted rise in prices of commodities owing to Christmas.
Members of the monitoring committee requested the district administration and the supply department to carry out surprise checks at local markets. Consumers have frequently complaint of unfair scaling of their edible items.
The unfair scaling is also common in East Jaintia Hills.
“We are getting midday meal from wholesalers, one bag of rice supposed to be weighing 50 kg but the bags supplied to us weigh only 35-40 kg,” said a Rangbah Shnong from East Jaintia Hills who is also the chairman of a School Managing committee.
