SHILLONG: A local court on Wednesday released the traffic in charge of Sadar police station, P.M Syiem, on bail with strict conditions.
Nitin Khera, Syiem’s lawyer, said they were ready to fight the case till the end and prove his innocence. However, he refused to divulge the conditions on which he was released.
“All the allegations against my clients are baseless,” he said.
Syiem was arrested last week following a complaint of sexual assault against him.
An FIR accusing the cop of assaulting a girl was filed at Laban police station on the night of December 13. Though there was a request for withdrawal of the FIR from the complainant, the accused had to be arrested as it was a cognizable offence. A local court had forwarded him to 14 days’ judicial custody.
