SHILLONG: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Roshan Warjri asked Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik to allot at least 18 seats for indigenous students at NEIAH, which was inaugurated on Thursday, and urged that preference be given to local people during recruitment. Speaking at the inaugural function of the institute here on Thursday, Warjri appealed to the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Ayush to consider a minimum of 18 seats (nine homoeopathy and nine Ayurveda) out of 100, which is on a par with seats allotted by NEIGHRIMS for the MBBS, to local indigenous population in Meghalaya.”
Warjri also asked the Union Minister to give preference to the people of the State on the basis of merit while recruiting staff for the institute even as she added that this would help overcome the language barrier and make people understand and acceptable about the significance of Ayush system of treatment.
The Minister even submitted a memorandum in this regard. “We have already told them that at the time of admission, we will give priority to local students. It is a small demand and we will think about it,” Naik told reporters.
