SHILLONG: The final feasibility report on the 80 km improvement of NH-40 between Shillong and Dawki and construction of the Dawki bridge has been submitted to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
Sources said alignment for the project was also approved earlier this month and now alternate alignment is being explored for the first bypass that will go through defence land and the last bypass, which is 200m from the international boundary.
It is learnt that IR and the quality assurance plan have been submitted and the first stage payment for the same was made.
The improvement of NH-40 and the Dawki bridge will be implemented by M/s Transys Consulting Pvt. Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore to be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The proposed road is expected to improve trade and commerce with Bangladesh through Dawki, besides it will also make travelling to Dawki and Bangladesh hassle-free.
At present, the Guwahati-Shillong-Dhaka bus plies on the road besides Dawki and nearby areas like Mawlynnong, which is situated nearby, is frequented by hundreds of tourists every day.
