SHILLONG: The city police on Tuesday arrested one more woman for her involvement in the trafficking case that involves the names of some of the local bigwigs.
Police said Mona Lisa Shangpliang (22) was called to Laitumkhrah police station and then she was arrested. With Mona Lisa, the number of arrests made so far in connection with the case rose to five. Earlier, the police had arrested an employee of Marvelene’s Inn, two pimps, Mamuni Parveen and Tarisha Mary Kharbamon, and 22-year-old Madan Bahadur Thapa of Jhalupara.
According to police, Mona Lisa is the one who was taking the girl to customers.
Further inquiry is on into the matter.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Mina Kharkongor, has asked the public prosecutor to oppose the bail to the accused involved in the sexual exploitation of a minor girl.
In a letter addressed to public prosecutor I.C Jha, Kharkongor urged him to raise objection if the bail comes up during the hearing as the accused “Mamuni Parveen and others have been involved in trafficking young girls and were using them in flesh trade”.
According to Kharkongor, the 14-year-old victim is yet to identify more influential people involved in the racket and if the bail is granted to the accused, the purpose of catching others will be defeated.
