Tourist resort inaugurated at Syntu Ksiar

JOWAI: Responsible tourism is the way to make the industry more appealing to visitors to the State, said West Jaintia Hills Additional District Magistrate D.M Wahlang.
Wahlang, who inaugurated Haven’s Cove resort near Syntu Ksiar on Tuesday, said, “It is important to understand that promotion of tourism does not simply mean developing infrastructure and providing food and lodging but includes promoting tourism responsibly.”
Explaining the term ‘responsible tourism’, the ADM said all stakeholders, including young entrepreneurs, should be responsible for minute details, from a tourist’s arrival to the departure, and ensure the visitor’s safety and at the same time take care of the environment.
“Responsible tourism would also include providing good food, lodging and basic amenities to the tourists. Promote tourism without destroying the environment,” he added.
Wahlang said the district administration aims at developing a full tourist circuit to enable overnight stays in places like Ialong, Krangshuri, Darrang-Shnongpdeng and Syntu Ksiar.  “Tourism is a big industry here and locals should benefit the most from this and ensure that more tourists visit every time.”  Haven’s Cove is a tourist resort complete with home-stay, swimming pool, off-road small vehicles and fishing pond.
