Grenade hurled at the residence of MoS for railways

Guwahati: Unidentified miscreants hurled a grenade at the residence of Union Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain in the heart of Nagaon town in Central Assam past midnight on Wednesday.
The grenade failed  to explode much to the relief of the inmates of the house. The incident prompted the authorities to tighten VIP security arrangements all over the state.
On being informed, police reached the minister’s house prompt and kept the grenade aside and covered it with a blanket and surrounded it with sand bags as a precautionary measure. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Kuladhar Saikia who rushed to the incident site on Thursday informed that the grenade fortunately did not explode and was later taken away by the explosives handling squad of the Army.
The Union minister and his family members were not present at the residence when the grenade was hurled.
The police official said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident to ascertain the identity of culprits.
He said the SPs in all the districts of the state had been instructed to augment security measures for all the VIPs in their districts.
