Rhino horn verification panel submits report

Guwahati: The Rhino Horn Verification Committee constituted by Government of Assam to verify rhino horns in different treasuries of the state on Thursday submitted the report to state Forest & Environment Minister Pramila Rani Brahma.
Keeping in view apprehensions raised by a section of people on genuineness of stored horns, the government had constituted a committee through a Notification to verify the genuineness of the Rhino horns kept in custody of twelve treasuries of the State by the Forest Department.
Accordingly, the committee members were nominated from diverse fields of expertise to examine the horns physically as well as histologically with the help of forensic experts by visiting the different treasuries.
The members present on Thursday while submitting the report to the  Government were Mohan Chandra Malakar as Chairman, Pankaj Sharma as Member Secretary, Mrinal Talukdar, Prashanta Rajguru, Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Anupam Sarma, Athang Singson as Members and Dharani Dhar Boro and Dilip Nath as Co-opt Members of the Rhino Horn Verification Committee.
