25 cases of drunken driving detected on Xmas eve

SHILLONG: Ahead of the New Year celebrations, police have made elaborate arrangements to check drunken driving.
In the past, there were either casualties or injuries due to drunken driving during festive season, but to ensure an incident-free celebration, police have intensified patrolling.
On the eve of Christmas, police detected 25 cases of drunken driving and cases have been taken up against such offenders as per the Motor Vehicle Act.
In a statement issued here on Friday, East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said in the process, except for one minor accident, no accidents were reported in the city.
In this connection, the district police have urged all motorists to cooperate by avoiding driving when they are under the influence of alcohol.
“This will prevent accidents which may otherwise lead to loss of precious lives. The city police will be conducting intensive checking and motorists are requested to bear with inconvenience,” he said.
