SHILLONG: The northeastern states, including Meghalaya, are among the priority states for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Meghalaya is among the 14 states and union territories that have LPG connections less than the national average. The other states with low coverage are Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
The Centre had fixed a target of 1.5 crore connections under the scheme for the current financial year and achieved it within a span of less than eight months.
With the implementation of PMUY, the national LPG coverage has increased from 61% (as on January 1, 2016) to 70% (as on December 1).
