No private car hiring in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner has instructed against hiring private vehicles for transportation of passengers and goods.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the DC said only owners of taxable vehicles in possession of a public service licence are permitted to offer their vehicles on hire under sub-sections 8 and 12 of Section 2 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and provisions of the Meghalaya Passengers and Goods Taxation Act. The release further said any owner of a private vehicle, if found violating the Acts, will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Acts.
