SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has decried the alleged involvement of Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang in the rape of a minor asserting that it has tarnished the dignity of the Assembly. It demanded that he should be stripped of his position as an MLA.
In a statement to the press, Thomas Passah, president of the youth organisation, lauded the approach of the Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and hoped that the MLA would be arrested soon.
“We are hopeful that the law will take its course to punish the MLA so as to discourage other culprits,” he stated. The KHNAM youth wing has urged the Police department to expedite the investigation into the case so as to disqualify him for breaking the law.  Alarmed over the rising crimes in the state, the KHNAM president has urged the people to come out for a rally on January 11 to fight the menace of rape in the city.
