Guwahati: The opposition Congress in Assam on Sunday alleged that the Central government’s announcement to replace subsidised ration for tea garden workers with cash is a conspiracy to benefit the owners at the cost of the workers.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress president Ripun Bora questioned the Union MoS for Labour’s recent announcement here that tea garden workers will be paid all their dues in money form, including the part meant for ration.
He said, “The minister failed to declare any modalities, like whether the money in lieu of ration will be at market rate or whether it will be revised. ”
Claiming that the workers preferred the ration than money, he alleged that the decision was to favour the owners of tea gardens.
Hitting out at the BJP-led Central and state governments, Bora alleged that prices of essential commodities have gone up post -demonetisation. (UNI)
