Editor,
So Julius Dorphang has at last been nabbed. A little bird believes he might start singing and the song might just go like this:
This is not the first time that he has raped a minor. Many young innocent girls were lured and then raped, by him and his patrons, at his farm house in Ri Bhoi. The victims and their families were stopped from complaining to the police by threats from the SHNLC. Many young Khasis are still infatuated with the HNLC and its call for freedom. Maybe this will show that these people are just a bunch of cheap crooks and nothing else. Perhaps now that the boss of the SHNLC has been arrested the victims and their families can find the courage to come out with their sad pathetic stories about the abuse they suffered at the hands of this monster and his patrons. It might save other innocents from the same fate. Actually they are to be encouraged to do so, so that all the filth will be exposed.
Who are the patrons? There are many, but mainly from the powerful political class of the state. They enjoy the services he provides while they offer protection. One is a senior functionary of a national political party who himself is not above indulging in occasional rumpuses under the sheets. Another powerful patron is known as the ‘ U Phantom ki 4dak’. This secret patron of the HNLC whose muscle power and services he liberally used to win elections until he became Home Minister. The HNLC must still be celebrating with champagne. No wonder the police have been pretty quiet on the anti militant front lately.
There is Marvelene’s Inn at Bishnapur the can of worms from where this all started. The Home Minister has denied all knowledge of the sleaze that the inn indulges in. Dorphang should be able to challenge this denial and prove that HDR was neck deep in all the muck and filth that prevails. He knew what was going on and his refusal to step down is in fact the only way to stop the police from naming him and his family as culprits .
There are the many and varied pimps and suppliers who supply willing or unwilling girls for the entertainment of the rich and the powerful. Aside from Marvelene’s Inn there is a building in Nongmynsong owned by a sitting ex-Minister that houses the willing sex workers. Each is provided with a maid and they are the resource pool to draw from whenever the demand for their services arises. A well known lady from Demthring is the main pimp and supplier. A beautiful English style cottage in Motinagar, shielded by flowering shrubs and trees advertises itself as a guest house. It also offers rooms by the hour. It is a well known haunt for those seeking extra marital pleasures.
Then there is this person who has risen from the ranks of an ambulance driver to become the Chairman of a powerful Govt commission. He is the link man for the powerful politician who favours Naga shawls. He frequents a well-known house in New Colony whose reputation for wild parties for sitting and ex-legislators is now legendary. Oh yes, if only Dorphang would sing the right chords then all the above and more would become public knowledge and people have the right to know what their MLAs are up to. For once in his miserable life we hope Dorphang does the right thing and sing without stopping.

The nightmare of being raped!
Editor,
One can see it all at the edges of the rape victims’ eyes. If we look in their eyes even in the picture it doesn’t matter if they are dead or alive; we can still read them, their trauma, and their corroded soul. They are trapped by the potential function of that nightmare they keep waking up into. Their eyes are in deep dream, with nothing but a monster at the end of it. Verily, their dignity is robbed away; it’s gone and not restorable. I say, the monsters in this worst attack on girls should be punished with nothing less than a life imprisonment, if society is to have any hope against such crimes. Or is this world a cosmic sphere where nothing gets solved?
A German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “Time is a flat circle”. Everything people have done or will do, they are going to do it over and over again. Notwithstanding any deterrent measure or laws, the girls, are going to be taken to those hotel rooms, or guest houses, or forests again and again and again unless people have the best protection plans and are extra vigilant. I agree with Rabindranath Tagore that, ”women are God’s best creation.” I therefore implore upon society to protect them. Or perhaps the best protection plan for girls and women is for them to be conscious of God’s love and walk in the Lord’s protection as promised in Psalm 91 of the Scripture.
