No leniency in NRC : Sonowal

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday said no leniency from officers of any rank will be tolerated in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) updation and asked district deputy commissioners to immediately remove employees who are seen to be casual in their jobs.
With Assam being the first state in the country to implement NRC updation, the DC’s must maintain utmost care to ensure error-free verification of documents, he said here and directed them to review the process every week.
Reiterating the government’s commitment for providing land deeds to 30,000 landless indigenous people of the state, Sonowal asked the DCs to conduct survey to identify the background of encroachers and carry out eviction drive.
He said the Assam government is actively working on “Discovery of Assam” project directed the DCs to tap the resources available in their respective districts including human, natural, cultural and communication. (PTI)
