SHILLONG: The KHNAM has expressed dismay over the delay on the part of the KHADC to amend ADC rule 128 of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The rule 128 of Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951 states that all citizens of India not below the age of 18 years can contest, be electors in the District Council polls.
In a memorandum to the CEM KHADC P.N. Syiem, Pyndapborthiaw Saibon, president of KHNAM has urged the CEM to expedite the amendment to the ADC rule which will prevent non-tribals from contesting KHADC elections.
