Accuses staff of showing apathy to a patient

SHILLONG: The legal cell of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded separate queues for male, female and senior citizens at Civil Hospital, Shillong.
Asserting that not maintaining separate queues is a violation of person’s right to dignity, AAP state legal cell secretary Peter A Dohkrut told reporters, “Right to dignity is equivalent to right to life.”
“The joint director has expressed helplessness in this case as it is up to the state government to examine the matter relating to separate queues,” Dohkrut added.
On the other hand, he alleged that a patient, who was deprived of money, was given treatment after 3-4 hours as there were no relatives in attendance.
“He was brought to the hospital by some people recently after seeing that he was unwell. They did not give him proper treatment only because he does not have relatives and money to buy medicines,” Dohkrut said.
Criticising the shortage of medicines at the hospital, he said, “Government should make medicines readily available to the people especially the poor rural folks.”
“The Government derives its taxes from us and its purpose is to serve the people and it has to address the congestion in hospital  and shortage of medicines,” he added.
According to him, the state government should allot medicines at half rate to the poor and weaker sections in the State.
