Man held for assaulting woman

SHILLONG: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday for assaulting a woman at Madan Laban on Tuesday.
Police said the incident happened on Tuesday around 10.30 am. The man, identified as Mithu Ravi Das, posed as a plumber and came to the house of Debasmita Gupta at Madan Laban.
She opened the door for him and then he locked the main door. Das asked Gupta whether her husband was at home to which she said no. Soon after he held her from the back and pushed her on the floor. However, Gupta managed to escape.
Police have registered a case under Section 354 of the IPC for assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
Later, after investigating the matter and profiling the suspect, the police found Das, who is from Oakland Road, and arrested him on Friday.
