Committed to follow up all rape cases: DGP

SHILLONG: DGP S.B Singh said on Saturday the priority for police is to investigate and follow up cases of rape and molestation.The DGP’s statement assumes significance at a time when cases of rape and other forms of sexual harassment have piled up in the past 2-3 years. “We will have to investigate all cases going by the law and step by step,” the DGP said. The State police data reveals that there were as many as 394 rape cases between 2013 and 2015 and 321 cases of molestation and sexual harassment during the same period. The number of rapes of women till November 2016 is 84 and that of children in the same period is 22. There has been growing demand for setting up of fast track courts but till date nothing has been done by the Government.
