Brooks speaks on classical music at SVEEP event

TURA: Renowned saxophonist George Brooks presented a lecture on classical music at Tura Auditorium on Saturday.
The programme, which was part of the Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), was organised by the Centre of Excellence in Indian and Western Music along with the Department of Art and Culture.
West Garo Hills DC Pravin Bakshi gave a brief speech on the jazz saxophonist and his fusion compositions. He added that the programme was a State initiative to entertain music lovers of the region and encourage youngsters to learn classical music.
The election mascot — a clouded leopard in traditional Garo attire — with a message ‘Your Vote Counts’ was displayed at the seminar. Enrolment forms for electoral photo identity card were also distributed.
Additional DC West Garo Hills Zenithsky Sangma, department officials and residents attended the event.
