Nongthymmai Basketball Championship concludes
Shillong: The Nongthymmai Basketball Championship 2017 organised by Nongthymmai Sports and Cultural Club concluded on Monday at Auxilium Girl Convent School, Nongthymmai. The first match in girls category was between Nongshilliang and Pohktieh in which Nongshilliang defeated Pohktieh 42-22. In the boys category, Umpling defeated Lumpyngad 44-34. MLA Nongthymmai Jemino Mawthoh was the chief guest of the occasion.
Sports Minister inaugurtes Boxing Academy in Haryana
Rohtak: Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Monday inaugurated the National Boxing Academy, here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister lauded the role of Haryana government and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in promotion sports and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a roadmap for Olympics to be held in 2020, 2024 and 2028. “This boxing academy would prove to be a good platform for Indian boxers,” he said. Espanyol renew Perez’s contract until June 2020
Barcelona: City-based football club Espanyol announced on Monday the renewal of Paraguayan winger Hernan Perez’s contract until June 30, 2020. Perez, 27, extended his contract at the Barcelona side after the club acquired the player’s rights in full last October, reports Efe. The Paraguayan joined the club last season and earned 33 caps in all competitions, 17 of which took place this season in La Liga and the Copa del Rey. (IANS)
Juventus suffer 1-2 defeat to Fiorentina in Serie A
Florence: Defending champions Juventus suffered a setback in their Serie A football title charge as they put up an uninspirung display during a 1-2 defeat to traditional rivals Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi here. Nikola Kalinic (37th minute) and Federico Chiesa (54th) on Sunday night helped hosts Fiorentina earn three points with the win over Juventus, whose sole goal was scored by Higuain. With the loss, Juventus’ lead at the top has been reduced to one after Roma beat Udinese to move to 44 points from 20 games. (IANS)
