Zenith says RSS working hard for BJP’s win
SHILLONG: Minister Zenith Sangma said on Monday the BJP, which is a “communal” entity, is not a threat to the Congress.
Addressing media persons here on Monday, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Hindu right-wing organisation, is working hard in every nook and corner of the State to win seats for the BJP.
“There is prima facie evidence that they are communal and they openly show their communal colour,” he said and added that the Congress would not remain a mute spectator in this matter.
Further attacking the saffron party, Sangma said BJP, after forming the government at the Centre, “thinks it can do anything, but it won’t be easy for it to make inroads in Meghalaya”.
On the murmurs about a possible non-Congress alliance in the State, Sangma said, “BJP does not have strong base in Meghalaya and so it is trying to go for an alliance with smaller parties to prevent the Congress from getting seats in the elections. It is very clear that NPP will be with BJP for the (2018 Assembly) elections and they will try for an alliance with BJP since they are in power at the Centre.”
Months after Chief Minister Mukul Sangma jibed at the Central ministers for their frequent visit to the State, Zenith on Monday reiterated the CM’s words.
“They have vested agendas or else why would they suddenly give special attention to Meghalaya and through these visits, they are trying to make inroads in Meghalaya in view of the upcoming election,” he added.
Reacting to a query about the prospects of the Congress party in Garo Hills, Zenith said the Lok Sabha elections cannot be compared with the Legislative Assembly elections even as he added that since 1977, P.A Sangma’s family has been winning the Tura Lok Sabha seats.
“It is not that Tura seat has slipped out of our hand but they (PA Sangma’s family members) were always being elected,” he said and added that the Congress would get around 30 seats in the 2018 Assembly elections and of these, 15-16 seats will be in Garo Hills.
