TURA/SHILLONG: The BJP’s executive committee meeting in Tura on Saturday will take up the issues of rising crime against women and children, violation of the NGT ban on rat-hole coal mining and leakage of revenue, among others.
The party is also planning to adopt a political resolution seeking the Centre’s nod to hand over the case of rape and trafficking of a minor by an MLA and several other individuals to the CBI. It will call for the resignation of Home Minister H.D.R Lyngdoh whose family runs the guesthouse where the minor girl was sexually abused. The resolution will include various failures of the State Government.
When asked about the next step following the resolution, Lyngdoh said, “We will see and follow up on those agendas which we will pass.”
This is the first time that the party will hold its state meet in Tura, where the BJP’s first regional party office will be inaugurated on the same day, giving a clear indication of the party’s intention to take on the Congress in its bastion in Garo Hills. The BJP’s national general secretary (political) Ram Madhav, who is in charge of the northeast region and Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to be present on Saturday along with national spokesperson and Meghalaya in-charge Nalin Kohli, national secretary Ramlal and Prashant Arora, coordinator of NE in Delhi.
Madhav is scheduled to inaugurate the regional office for Garo Hills, BJP State President Shibun Lyngdoh said.
“According to the guidelines of the central office, there has to be an office in every district. It will be the first time we will have an office of our own and not a rented one. It will be the regional office for Garo Hills,” he said.
