TURA: The opposition Congress in the GHADC has accused the ruling NPP-GNC-BJP alliance of turning a blind eye to the ‘inflated’ cost in implementing projects funded by the Centre.
The Congress alleged that there are anomalies in the preparation of the cost estimates and detailed project reports (DPRs) with vague replies being given on the work schedule used by the engineering wing of the GHADC.
“According to the current PWD schedule, the cost estimates are found to be exorbitant. To ensure development schemes are implemented properly it would be commendable if the MP, along with the vigilance and monitoring committee, looks into the enquiries,” said Congress MDC Stevie Marak. The Centre, through the Niti Aayog, had released a one-time development package of Rs 100.71 crore to the GHADC for projects to be taken up in the 29 MDC constituencies.
Earlier too, there were allegations of misappropriation of the central fund but the GHADC as well as Tura MP and NPP leader Conrad Sangma had rebutted the claims. The Congress has also accused the ruling NPP alliance of not providing copies of the report on the implementation of schemes during the one-day meeting of the vigilance and monitoring committee at circuit house last week.
It has also accused the alliance of violating the High Court order relating to payment of staff salaries.
“The Executive Committee had promised to pay two months’ salary every month till the dues are cleared up to date but so far only two months’ salary has been disbursed,” the Congress said.
