SHILLONG: Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang, who is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl at a resort in Ri Bhoi, was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a local court in the district on Wednesday.
Earlier on Saturday, the local court in Nongpoh granted Ri Bhoi police five-day custody of Dorphang against the seven-day custody sought by police, which got over on Wednesday. Dorphang was in 14-day judicial custody since January 12 after his arrest following the first case of rape of the 14-year-old girl in a guest house at Motinagar. Later, a second case was filed against Dorphang in Ri Bhoi for raping the minor girl in Orchid Lake Resort in Umiam.
