SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Students’ Union (HSU) has given the State Government three months’ time to declare Namdong in West Jaintia Hills as a C&RD block.
HSU president Kyrshan Rymbai told reporters on Thursday the reply to an RTI filed by the organisation revealed that the land, which was given to the C&RD Block Department by Raij Namdong for setting up the block office, was inspected on August 13, 2013, by the then BDO of Thadlaskein Block A.M Lyngdoh. “There was a proposal to come up with Namdong C&RD Block after the division of Thadlaskein C&RD Block,” said Rymbai, adding that it was baffling why the Government was so reluctant to set up the block office. The division of Thadlaskein block became necessary because of the large number of villages under it.
“As per the gift deed between Raij Namdong and the C&RD Department the Raij will take over the land if the State Government does not come up with a C&RD block at Namdong,” Rymbai said. The RTI also revealed that none of the legislators spoke on the functioning of the C&RD block at Namdong.
HSU has urged C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to look into the matter. Dhar is also the local MLA of Nartiang constituency and Namdong village, fall under the constituency.“If the State Government remains silent we will write to the Ministry of Rural Development for its intervention,” he added.
