SHILLONG: A fresh bid has been floated for the upgradation of the 43.06-km Nongstoin-Wahkhaji road after the two-laning project for the stretch of road from Nongstoin to Domisiat met with opposition from NGOs.
The status report of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) says the final detailed project report for the 61.57-km Nongstoin-Wahkhaji-Domisiat project has been received. However, the earlier letter of allotment has been withdrawn due to non-availability of NOC from the KHADC.The road project is to be taken up at a cost of Rs 293 crore and it will be implemented by M/s Chaitanaya Projects Consulting Pvt Ltd.
Meanwhile, the final DPR for the upgradation of Wahkaji-Phlangdiloin-Ranikor road was submitted by the same consultant to the PWD and the NHIDCL branch office received the same last March. NHIDCL status report says forest clearance and utility shifting will be done after receipt of the final DPR from PWD.
The KSU and other NGOs have been opposing the road projects which, according to them, are meant for facilitating uranium mining in the State. The KHADC has made it abundantly clear that NOC will not be issued for the road projects.
