Imphal: A joint forum of the insurgent outfits in the north-east, the Alliance for Socialist Unity Kangleipak (ASUK), has prohibited Republic Day celebrations across the region on January 26, a press release issued on Friday by ASUK publicity committee convenor S Mangal said.
ASUK, consisting of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), in its release, alleged that the whole concept of India did not cover the people of West East South East Asia (WESEA).
This has been testified time and again by several incidents of harassment of the WESEA people at major Indian cities, the release added.
It also mentioned exemption of health services, media, religious functions, power and water supplies from the ban on Republic Day celebrations. (PTI)
